or most pool owners, pool cleaning robots don’t mean news. Everyone has at least one type of device that makes their life easier by scrubbing and vacuuming the pool dirt for them. Whether we’re talking about a pump-connected robot, robots that require manual set-ups, or a even surface skimmers, near a pool there is always a robot. But still, something might be missing.
And what is missing from all those models is the Dolphin Oasis Z5i’s WiFi and Bluetooth-controlled cleaning ability. With everything available at the tip of your finger nowadays, why go the traditional route when it comes to having a cleaner pool?
If you’re not sure about switching to WiFi yet, take a look at these other robotic pool cleaner reviews. They might help you with making a decision.
Design and Accessories
With 23″ x 20″ x 14″ dimensions, an ergonomic design, and only 24-pounds, this scrubbing and vacuuming machine is ready for anything your pool can throw its way. The floats on its arm and the styrofoam on its motor ensure the right level of buoyancy for the robot when making its way around the pool and brushing tough spots on the waterline (do not remove those pieces; in case it is needed, you can only adjust the arm floats by sliding them outward). A single color option is available, a blue and gray mix.
The initial purchase only comes with the robot, the power supply, and the 60′ cable, but the other accessories that are available as separate orders are a caddy, a caddy cover, additional filters, and different brush models.

With a cleaning cycle of just 2 hours and 30 minutes, this robot can clean your in-ground pool’s floor, walls, and waterline, made of any material (concrete, vinyl, PVC, and fiberglass), and up to 50 feet. The depth range for optimal operation is between 2.6 and 16.4 feet and temperature-wise 43° and 93°F – which makes it appropriate for winterization cleaning too.
The Oasis Z5i’s cleaning performance is outstanding when it comes to equally covering every foot of your pool and acting as a second filtration system. With the CleverClean™ path scanning technology, Bluetooth navigation, dual drive, and anti-tangle swivel cord, the Dolphin moves with a 360° turning ability for 100% surface cleaning coverage. Its standard Dynamic Dual Scrubbing brushes are a mixed media of foam and PVC to provide an almost universal pool material match, but the other 2 options you can look into are full foam for smooth tiles, and full PVC for concrete, fiberglass, and liners. These coupled with the ultra-fine twin cartridge filters make for both a clean pool and clean water.
To prevent any efficiency issue, whenever the device ends a cleaning cycle what you need to do is take out its filters through the easy top access and accurately rinse them with water, and every 2 months you can even throw them in the washing machine (synthetic cycle) for a longer lifespan. Other things you can do to help your robot’s longevity are cable care (unplugging the cable, unwinding it, and leaving it in the sun for a while) and keeping it in the shade when not in use (place it upside down in case you don’t have a caddy).
Ease of Use
Setting up a pool cleaner might have confused you in the past, but now it’s quite simple. With the Oasis Z5i, you plug it in, turn on the power supply, and connect the robot to the app on your phone (when the LED goes from blue to green it means that connection was a success). The MyDolphin Plus App has both WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities to help you schedule weekly cycles and even use remote steering for any stubborn algae spots you’d like to insist on. The power supply is connected to a Cloud which enables 24/7 connectivity to your cleaner for easier management and notifications. For all this, check to make sure that your phone GPS option is active during cleaning and also that your router runs on a 2.4 GHz frequency. The power supply has water-resistant components, but sadly it is not waterproof, meaning you’ll have to cover it in case of any bad weather (storms, snow, etc) and keep it away from the water (at least 12 feet from the edge).
When it comes to leaving the unit submerged after a cleaning cycle has ended it is a possibility, however, you must consider the following:
- You must remove it during water treatment and until the chemical levels reach a proper balance
- You must remove it if you’re going for a swim
- Continuous water exposure can accelerate the wear and tear of components
When removing the robot from the pool use the cable to gently pull it to the edge, grab it by the handle and place it on the edge to allow the rapid water release to drain everything, and finally, store it safely (storage temperature matches running temperature – 43° to 93°F).
Dolphin robots are said to be 8x better than the filter or pump-connected counterparts when it comes to energy consumption. The average costs you can expect when using it are 5 cents per hour. To ensure that you’re keeping costs to a minimum, check the part in the user manual dedicated to Routine Maintenance and follow the steps recommended there. No improper handling means fewer service repairs.
